New Year Plans and The Way to Look Back Over The Past Year!

hi yuThe Hi-Yu community organizes so many successful events every year. The last year went really well and we had so many good contests which were all great success. This year the Hi-Yu organization plans to introduce new contests and physical activities for people of Seattle to participate and enjoy.

Last year we raised a collective community. We introduced several programs for the upheaval of our community. The important initiative by the organization was the teen Ambassador program in the age range of 13-16 and our 2016 Spring Tea and Auction event.

Many other small events were organized as well, which were all great success.

  • Teen Ambassador program in the age range of 13-16

The organization expanded their west Seattle Hi-Yu Teen Ambassador program in order to add 4 more teen ambassadors 3 times a year. Now there are 12 total West Seattle Hi-Yu Teen Ambassadors. 4 new Ambassadors are installed with every fourth month interval. The teen Ambassadors serve for 1 year once they are installed, if they want to continue their job they can re-apply the next year. All the teen ambassadors are in the age range of 13 to 16 years.

  • The 2016 Spring Tea and Auction event

Another major successful event by the Hi-Yu West Seattle organization was the 2016 spring tea and auction event. People joined the Hi-Yu royalty for an afternoon tea. The event held at the Hall at Fauntleroy located at 9131 California Ave SW on May, 22, 2016. This traditional event featured sweet and savory treats, a silent auction, and, of course tea. This event was the primary fundraiser for Hi-Yu west Seattle organization. The event made it possible to raise scholarship and float funds for the community.

westseattlehiyuLike every year this year the Hi Yu organization have new plans to introduce for people of west Seattle to participate and enjoy.

Playing sports is not only enjoyable activity but it also has countless health benefits. People who play sports can easily prevent various diseases. There are so many health conditions that can be prevented if we play sports regularly. The goal of our organization is to introduce some healthy sports contests which are beneficial to the health of our community. People can have a good time playing these sports and will also feel better about their health.

Following sport contest we are planning to introduce this year.

  • Ping Pong game:

ping pong gamePing pong is an easy and very enjoyable game. The rules are easy and a group of people can have a great time playing ping pong.  Playing this game has many health benefits as well, such as it improves hand and eye coordination, stimulates mental alertness and concentration. This is a perfect game for young people to sharpen their reflexes, and for older people who want to refine tactics. It helps develop mental acuity as well.   • Running:

runningAnother contest we are planning to introduce is running. Running has endless health benefits for people of all ages. Running helps to build strong bones because it is a weight bearing exercise. It also strengthens muscles and improves cardiovascular fitness. If you want to maintain a healthy weight you should definitely participate in this contest.

  • Cycling:

CyclingCycling is widely enjoyed by young people everywhere. It has numerous health benefits such as improved joint mobility, decreased stress levels and improved posture and coordination. It significantly decreases body fat levels and prevents various diseases.

  • Walking

walkingWalking is something people of all ages can benefit from. No matters how old are you, walking has great benefits for everyone. It is a great cardio exercise and keeps our heart healthy.


This year the Hi Yu organization has even better plans to keep the community entertained and healthy as well. If you want to be a part of all the healthy activities mentioned above, you can get registered and participate for a good health.

A Plan to Strengthen Public Health by Sport in West Seattle Community

The Hi- Yu organization is introducing a plan to strengthen public health by sports in west Seattle community. The main objective of the program is to give opportunities to the general public to take part in exercise and sports in order to promote good health. The organization will support a free and independent sport movement which will provide men and woman positive experiences of sports as entertainment.

Health benefits of sports

Playing sports is not only a great source of entertainment and a very fun activity; it also refreshes our mind and strengthens our health. Sports involve activity of each and every muscle of our body and are beneficial to our health in so many ways. There are so many diseases that can be prevented by playing sports. Following are some of the health benefits of promoting sports in any community.

Healthy heart

Activities like Running, Cycling and Ping Pong are great workouts for our body. These activities result in pumping more blood and there are fewer chances of malfunctioning if you exercise regularly. Heart diseases are on the rise worldwide and they affect so many people around the globe. However we can prevent and minimize heart problems in our community by promoting healthy physical activities like running or walking.

Sports help in controlling diabetes

Playing sports helps the insulin in our body to perform in a better way. It helps the people with diabetes to make most of the insulin which is already present in their body. Not only can the sports help the people to better manage their existing diabetic condition, it also helps in reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes.

Lower Hypertension

Hypertension disease which is also known as high blood pressure is responsible for various health complications and can contribute to various serious illnesses such as a stroke or heart disease. The control and prevention of hypertension is absolutely necessary. The best way to control hypertension is by playing sports.  People who indulge in sports and other healthy physical activities can manage and prevent hypertension very easily.

Obesity and weight management

Obesity is a health problem faced by millions of people across the world. Managing a healthy weight is a challenge almost everybody can relate to.

Weight management and obesity can be easily dealt by indulging yourself in sports and other healthy physical activities. Fat cells get burnt and extra calories are shed through rigorous physical activity your body undergoes during sports. People who play sports as part of their routine are naturally leaner and fitter.

Improved Blood Circulation

Blood circulation is improved when you play sports. The body is well oxygenated during any physical activity. So your body gets more healthy and active. Playing sports not only improves your blood circulation but also increases the hemoglobin in your body which increases the volume of your blood and ultimately boosts your health.

Stronger immunity against diseases

Regularly exercising and playing sports can make the body immune to many diseases that usually affect a person because of weak immunity.  Physical activity enhances the rate at which white blood cells reach all parts of the body. It also increases sweat production which is a great way to remove toxins from our body. The body temperature also rises when playing sports, which ultimately lessens the chances of bacterial growth in our bodies.

You can get yourself registered very easily for the program. The registration process is starting from 1/19/2018-1/21/2018.

How people of west Seattle community will be benefitted from sports:

There is no doubt that introducing sports can bring about a healthy change in any community. Approximately 400 people are going to be benefitted through this plan that will introduce sports competitions such as running, walking, cycling and ping pong. All these games require rigorous physical activity that is excellent for health of our community.

Stagnant life style is the main cause of deterioration of general health of public. Our platform will provide an excellent chance to people to enjoy themselves and strengthen their health.  Sports will not only strengthen the health of our community but also inculcates various healthy attributes in our society such as teamwork, tolerance and goal setting.

Buget Meeting February 6, All Encouraged to Attend

The next West Seattle Hi Yu general meeting will be held on Monday, February 6th, 2017 from 6:00 pm to 7:45 pm at the Seattle Public Library, West Seattle branch, 2306 42nd Ave. S.W., Seattle, WA 98116. The topic of discussion will be the 2017 budget.

The West Seattle Hi Yu Board is proposing two (2) versions of the budget: a barebones budget and a re-organization budget. The re-building version focuses on taking a year away from parades and a court(s) to re-build the organization and create a lasting program. The barebones version maintains some semblance of the legacy program with limited participation in events and parades assuming we have a court(s) to participate. Both proposals call for a significant increase in revenue. The budgets can be viewed in the documents below.

The Hi Yu Board would like to invite you to come and discuss these proposals. Although there has been some interest from the community to assist in our volunteer efforts, after the October, 2016 meeting, interest and attendance at the general meetings has dropped significantly. While we very much appreciate those who have reached out and are willing to help us continue the organization, it is clear that in order for Hi Yu to continue, we need to have more involvement from the community both in terms of volunteer hours and financial support. Hi Yu is an all-volunteer organization, so while financial support is greatly appreciated and needed, it’s the people that make it run.

The Board is working under the question “What will be missed if Hi Yu is gone?” For many, it’s the nostalgia of the wonderful courts that were for years, the mainstay of Hi Yu. For some, it’s the scholarship opportunity. For others, it’s the opportunity to represent West Seattlein wonderful summer festivals around the region. If you have your own personal answer to the question, what will be missed, and you don’t want to see Hi Yu go away, please join us in working towards re-building Hi Yu.
